Creativity as a pathway to wellness

Hi I’m Andrea

I am the face behind Canvas Art Therapy and a Registered Art Therapist with the British Columbia Art Therapy Association. I have been practicing since 2014, and over the past decade, I’ve supported a wide range of clients through both counselling and creative expression. My work has included helping children who have witnessed violence and abuse, guiding individuals living with anxiety and other mental health challenges, and providing meaningful art therapy experiences for older adults.

My own journey with creativity has shown me how powerful the creative process can be in processing trauma, navigating difficult experiences, and overcoming personal challenges. This personal understanding shapes the way I integrate counselling, psychoeducation, and art in my practice. My approach is rooted in a trauma-informed perspective, creating safe, supportive, and empowering spaces where clients can explore emotions, build resilience, and discover new ways of healing. I am passionate about helping others use creativity as a tool for self-expression, growth, and meaningful connection.

As a therapist practicing in Langley BC, I acknowledge that we are on the traditional, ancestral, and unceeded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Kwantlen, Katzie, Matsqui, and Semiahmoo First Nations. I am grateful for the opportunity to live, work, and offer therapeutic support on this land, and I am committed to working towards reconciliation and building respectful relationships with Indigenous communities.

About Art Therapists

Art therapists are trained mental health professionals with backgrounds in both psychotherapy and the arts. This blend allows us to use creativity as a pathway to healing, growth, and connection. Through colour, shape, texture, and imagery, art therapy gives voice to emotions and experiences that can be difficult to put into words.

Art therapists work with people of all ages and in many settings, offering a supportive and flexible approach that adapts to each person’s unique needs. Whether you’re navigating stress, grief, anxiety, or major life transitions, art therapy provides a safe space to explore, express, and discover new ways forward.
